Yen Weakening Brings Little Cheer for Indonesian Travelers
The Japanese yen has weakened against the US dollar in recent trading sessions, raising questions about whether this is a good time for Indonesians to travel to Japan. However, the calculation is not as simple as it seems.
While the yen's value against the dollar has indeed decreased, its exchange rate with the rupiah has not necessarily become more favorable for Indonesian travelers.
In fact, the current exchange rate of around 113-114 rupiah per yen is slightly higher than what it was about a month ago. This means that spending 100,000 yen would still require approximately Rp11.3 million at the current exchange rate.
The benefits of a better exchange rate can also be partially eroded by inflation in Japan, which rose 1.9 percent in August compared to the same period last year. Additionally, high demand from international tourists continues to drive up accommodation prices in popular destinations like Tokyo and Osaka.
