Anderon, an IBM company focused on quantum wafer manufacturing, has finalized a $1 billion award under the CHIPS and Science Act. The funding will accelerate research and development for its U.S.-based pure-play quantum foundry in Albany, New York.

The company operates a 300-millimeter quantum wafer foundry at this location, which is backed by an additional $1 billion investment from IBM.

Anderon's model is to serve as a pure-play foundry for the broader quantum ecosystem. This means that companies developing next-generation quantum computing systems can access production-scale technology without needing to build their own semiconductor manufacturing infrastructure.
