$1 Trillion AI Boom Looms: JPMorgan CEO Warns of Potential Market Correction
JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon expects AI spending to reach $1 trillion in 2027, up from around $300 billion last year. The current rate of growth is approximately a 1% increase to GDP each year, but Dimon notes that it may add 'a little bit' to inflation. However, he also believes that AI could eventually have a deflationary impact.
Dimon emphasized the rapid growth and potential of AI technology, describing it as 'unbelievable.' He pointed out that improvements in customer experience are often difficult to quantify, making it challenging to measure the return on investment. Dimon also hinted at a potential market correction but expressed uncertainty about whether AI would be the trigger.
The AI boom has been described as 'massive' by Adam Shapiro, Vice President of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. Data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis shows that spending is shifting away from residential investment and towards computers. Goldman Sachs has raised its 2026 U.S. business investment growth forecast to 7.8% due to AI spending.
