$13M Fund Tied to West Virginia Wind Project Launched by Clearway and Microsoft
Clearway Energy Group and Microsoft have partnered to launch a $13 million fund tied to Clearway's Mount Storm Energy Center wind project in Grant County, West Virginia. The 20-year West Virginia Community Energy Fund will distribute more than $13 million over its lifespan, with the first grant of $4.5 million allocated to 13 local entities in the Potomac Highlands region.
The fund was created through a long-term power purchase agreement between Clearway and Microsoft, with the Sustain Our Future Foundation administering it. A local advisory committee will select recipients based on regional priorities, focusing on energy, education, and public safety initiatives.
The first round of funding has benefited organizations such as Coalfield Development, which is expanding energy and construction training; the Eastern WV Community Action Agency, which is scaling home weatherization; and the Grant County Volunteer Fire Association, which is acquiring equipment and training for volunteer firefighters in Bayard, Maysville, Mount Storm, and Petersburg.
