$167.5 Million Settlement for Cardholders Who Paid High ATM Fees
Cardholders who paid ATM fees may be eligible for a share of $167.5 million in a settlement between Visa and Mastercard. The companies agreed to settle a lawsuit alleging their rules kept fees higher at independent ATMs, such as those found at gas stations, hotels, and convenience stores.
The settlement applies to individuals who paid an ATM fee between October 24, 2007, and August 14, 2026, for withdrawing cash from an independent ATM in the United States. The withdrawal must have come from a deposit account using an ATM or PIN-debit card, excluding credit card cash advances and prepaid card transactions.
The companies deny wrongdoing and the settlement is not an admission of liability. However, if approved by the court, eligible claimants will receive a share of the $167.5 million fund based on the number of valid claims filed.
Claimants can check their eligibility and submit a claim online or by mail by February 10, 2027. A hearing is scheduled for February 17, 2027, to finalize court approval, after which payments will be distributed.
