JPMorgan Chase has committed nearly $200 million toward a new apartment project at the former Potrero Power Station in San Francisco. This financing is part of the bank's American Dream Initiative, which aims to expand housing supply and homeownership opportunities.

The project will feature 342 units, with rents capped to accommodate middle-income households. JPMorgan Chase has also invested up to $15 million in Fifth Space's Essential Housing Fund, a fund designed to provide financing for middle-income housing projects.

The funding follows the bank's earlier role in helping finance the Sophie Maxwell Building, a 105-unit residential development that opened in 2025. The project is part of the larger Potrero Power Station master plan, which envisions roughly 2,600 homes, commercial space, and public open space.

JPMorgan Chase's investment in middle-income housing is seen as a test of whether creative financing can help produce homes for people who are essential to the city but often struggle with affordability. The bank has also provided $6 million in grants to support housing development funds and efforts to reduce displacement in San Francisco and Oakland.
