$2.2M Bill for Pat McAfee as Students Keep Kicking Field Goals
A series of students have been successfully kicking field goals on ESPN's College GameDay to win $1 million, leaving Pat McAfee and Home Depot facing a hefty bill. The most recent winner is James Whitehead, a finance major at Ole Miss who split the uprights from 33 yards out before the Rebels hosted LSU in Oxford.
This marks the second week in a row that a student has won the contest, which was launched by McAfee in 2023 as part of his signature 'Kicking is Easy' competition. In total, four students have made kicks over the contest's first three seasons, resulting in a payout of $650,000 to students and their designated charities.
The sudden surge in successful field goals has left Pat McAfee stunned, with him saying 'That's the best kick yet... Kid hustled us!' during the live broadcast. Whitehead opted to go barefoot for his attempt, much like Texas freshman Connor Kaceu-Merrell did a week earlier.
