$2.35 Million Growth: Coca-Cola Investment from 1975 Sets Record
An investor who put $5,000 into Coca-Cola at the start of 1975 saw their investment grow to more than $2.35 million by late 2024.
This growth was due entirely to dividend reinvestment, with Coca-Cola paying quarterly dividends since 1920 and increasing its payout for 34 consecutive years by 1996.
However, the calculation assumes that dividends were used to purchase more Coca-Cola stock instead of being taken as cash, which would have resulted in a much smaller final sum.
A comparison with other investment periods shows that starting the same $5,000 investment at different points produces very different outcomes. A $5,000 investment made at the beginning of 1995 grew to about $50,571 by the end of 2024 with dividends reinvested, while a $5,000 investment beginning in 2015 reached about $10,154.
