$29 Million Awarded to Family of UN Employee Killed in Deadly Boeing Crash

A Chicago jury has awarded $29 million in damages to the family of Michael 'Mick' Ryan, an Irish-born UN employee who died in a Boeing 737 MAX crash in 2019.

Ryan was an engineer with the UN World Food Programme and had worked on various humanitarian missions around the world, including during the Ebola crisis in Liberia and with Rohingya refugees.

The case is one of the final remaining civil suits pending against Boeing following two deadly MAX crashes in 2018 and 2019 that claimed a total of 346 lives.
