$4.9 Million Windfall: Mount Pleasant Gets Cash Back from Microsoft Data Center
The Village of Mount Pleasant in Wisconsin is set to receive $4.9 million after Microsoft waived its development incentive for its data center. The move means that nearly $5 million will go back to the village, with some of it going towards reducing property taxes and funding capital projects.
The data center was built by Microsoft, which has invested over $20 billion in these facilities. A total of $100,000 from the waived incentive will be given to the Racine County Economic Development Corporation to fund countywide business attraction and economic growth initiatives.
Village President David DeGroot said that without this funding, property taxes for residents would have been higher. He added that Microsoft has been a 'genuine corporate citizen' throughout the process.
