$50 Billion Valuation: Jeff Dean's Discovery Loop Seeks Funding Amid AI Frenzy
Jeff Dean, former chief scientist at Google, is seeking funding for his new AI startup, Discovery Loop, at a valuation of $50 billion. This comes just weeks after the company was looking to raise $1 billion at a valuation of around $10 billion.
The rapid escalation in valuations for startups led by prominent AI researchers has investors eager to get involved. Dean's team includes fellow former Google researchers Sanjay Ghemawat, Quoc Le, and Oriol Vinyals, who aim to use AI to accelerate scientific and engineering research through the parallel execution of thousands of experiments.
Discovery Loop's founding team brings extensive experience from Google, having worked on key distributed-computing technologies and products including Google Search, Ads, Gemini, and Gmail. The startup has already secured funding from investors such as Radical Ventures, Khosla Ventures, and Alphabet, which was a founding investor and cloud partner.
The $50 billion valuation reflects intense investor demand for teams led by prominent AI researchers, even before their companies have established commercial products. Other recently formed AI companies have also attracted substantial financing at high valuations before launching products.
