$50 Million Settlement Offered to Disney Streaming Subscribers
A $50 million settlement has been reached in an antitrust lawsuit against The Walt Disney Company. Subscribers of YouTube TV, DirecTV Stream, and FuboTV brought the suit, accusing Disney of engaging in conduct to raise prices for streaming live pay television.
The plaintiffs alleged that since Disney took control of Hulu in 2019, it dramatically inflated prices marketwide by raising its own product prices. The lawsuit sought damages as well as injunctive relief to halt and unwind Disney's anticompetitive practices.
Disney denied any wrongdoing but agreed to a partial settlement with YouTube TV and DirecTV Stream subscribers. If you qualify, you have until September 2026 to file a claim online or by mail. The settlement fund will be split between two groups of members: those in repealer jurisdictions (90%) and non-repealer jurisdictions (10%).
A portion of the settlement will cover administration costs and fees, while the remaining amount will be distributed as pro rata cash payments proportional to the length of subscription.
