$50M Enable Ventures Fund Targets Accessibility Market Opportunity
Enable Ventures has closed its $50 million accessibility-focused fund, marking a significant milestone in the venture capital space. The firm's thesis is centered around the massive market opportunity presented by the 1.5 billion people with disabilities worldwide.
According to Enable Ventures' Kline, 'we think the market size and the opportunity is the 1.5 billion people with disabilities on the planet.' He emphasizes that this inherently includes healthcare but also encompasses a broader scope, including technology development and adoption by end-users and consumers.
The fund has already made 11 investments to date, backing companies like Be My Eyes, which uses AI to audibly describe the physical world for blind and low-vision users. Enable Ventures aims to make about 25 investments from its $50 million fund.
The firm's LPs include prominent players such as UnitedHealth Group, Liberty Mutual Investments, Ally Bank, SHRM, and Ascension. In addressing concerns around intense competition for LPs, Kline notes that Enable Ventures is 'painting on a white space in the capital markets' by focusing on an underrepresented area.
