$68 Million Settlement for Unprompted Google Assistant Recordings Approaches Claim Deadline

A $68 million settlement between Google and affected users is nearing its claim deadline. The lawsuit accused Google's Assistant of recording personal conversations without prompting.

The settlement covers those who purchased a qualifying Google device, including Google Home, Home Mini, Home Max, Nest Hub, Nest Hub Max, and Pixel smartphones. It also includes those who used Google Assistant or resided in a home where their communications were recorded by the service.

Qualifying individuals will receive payments based on how many valid claims are filed and points earned. For every qualifying device purchased, four points are awarded, with a maximum of 12 points for three devices. Those who fall into the second group, 'Privacy Settlement Class', will receive one point.
