'70s Sodas That Deserve a Second Chance: Tab, Aspen, Rondo, Barq's Grape

The '70s saw the rise and fall of many iconic soda brands. Among them were Tab, Aspen, Rondo, Barq's Grape, and Peppo. These sodas were ahead of their time with unique flavors that didn't quite catch on.

Tab, launched by The Coca-Cola Company in 1963, was a sugar-free diet soda that used saccharine as its sweetener. Although it gained popularity in the '70s, its reputation was damaged due to concerns over potential cancer risks associated with saccharine. Tab's sales declined, and the company eventually pulled the plug on the brand at the end of 2020.

Aspen, introduced by PepsiCo in 1978, was an apple-flavored soda that aimed to capture a more discerning palate. Although it didn't quite make it past 1982, its unique flavor has sparked nostalgia among some fans, who believe it deserves a revival.

Rondo, launched by Cadbury-Schweppes in 1978, was another citrus soda that failed to gain traction. Its lighter carbonation made it easy to consume, but it ultimately became a footnote in the world of '70s sodas.

The Coca-Cola Company acquired Barq's brand in 1995 and introduced several flavors, including grape, which has since disappeared from shelves. With a small focus on fruit-flavored sodas today, reviving Barq's Grape could bring back nostalgic memories for many.
