737 MAX Software Glitch Raises Safety Concerns

Boeing has identified a previously undisclosed software glitch in its 737 MAX aircraft that could cause an automated navigation feature to fail during landing. The issue emerged from a cockpit software update and can occur when flight crews alter their planned flight path after a missed approach, according to company documents.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is aware of the potential issue and is working closely with Boeing and airlines to address it. The FAA stated that it will convene a Corrective Action Review Board and take immediate action if it identifies a safety concern.

Southwest Airlines and United Airlines have asked Boeing not to deliver new 737 MAX aircraft equipped with the affected software, requesting an earlier version instead. It is unclear how many aircraft are operating with the flawed software.
