$8.5 Billion Bet: McDonald's Rolls Out NEXT Strategy to Reclaim Customers
McDonald's has launched its McDonald's NEXT strategy to win back customers through technology, better food, and revamped restaurants. The fast-food giant is committing $8.5 billion to this effort by 2036, with approximately $5 billion allocated between now and 2030. This investment includes rent relief and capital support for franchisees.
The company aims to improve its food quality, use customer data and digital tools for targeted marketing, modernize restaurants, deploy automation, streamline operations, and provide better training and tools for employees. McDonald's also plans to launch the 'Make It Golden' initiative, a systemwide effort aimed at improving hospitality.
McDonald's shares plummeted 4.81% to $238.32 on Wednesday after the announcement. The stock touched a 52-week low of $234.03 during the session. This decline reflects growing concerns about customer traffic, which is under pressure due to rising everyday costs and debts. McDonald's expects its investment to improve profits and cash flow by 2030, targeting operating margins of 50% to 55%, free-cash-flow conversion of 80% to 90%, and general & administrative costs of around 1.9% of sales.
