$8K Business Class Ticket Cancelled Without Notice by American Airlines
Jane, an accomplished philanthropist and senior citizen, was supposed to travel from New York-JFK to Buenos Aires on American Airlines' nonstop flight AA953 on Saturday evening. Her ticket was over $8,000 in business class, which she had booked using her AAdvantage miles. However, the flight was delayed until the following day at 7:00 pm due to mechanical issues and poor technology.
Despite being able to rebook her domestic connection and charter in Argentina on Saturday night, Jane's ticket was cancelled when AA's broken technology auto-rebooked her on the delayed Friday flight. The cancellation occurred 15 minutes before the original flight departed, leaving Jane without a confirmed seat or any notice from American Airlines.
The airline refused to rebook her on her original flight, which she had never changed or wanted to change, citing that it was now sold out. Instead, they offered her a seat in premium economy class on the Sunday night AA953 flight. The check-in agent at JFK even took her boarding pass and told her it was invalid.
American Express confirmed that it did not touch Jane's ticket, and all changes were initiated by American Airlines. The airline's Twitter/X team and reservations department were unable to help, blaming airport control for the issue. AA's broken technology and poor customer service left Jane stranded and forced her to rebook on Delta Air Lines via Atlanta.
