96% of Indian Organisations Hit by Cyber Incidents, Internal Silos to Blame

Cyber incidents have become a common occurrence for Indian organisations, with 96% of them experiencing at least one material and business-disrupting cyber incident over the past year. According to Cisco's 'Relentless Defense Report', which surveyed 8,000 security professionals across 30 markets, including 1,000 from India, internal organisational friction is a greater impediment to strengthening cyber defences than technological limitations.

The report found that entities in India recorded an average score of 66 out of 100, marginally above the global average of 64. Only 8% of organisations in India qualified for the best-performing category, matching the global figure of 8%. Top-tier defenders combined broad coverage, rapid response times, and unified team operations.

Operational silos were identified as a critical vulnerability, with only 40% of respondents stating that their security, networking, and IT teams functioned as a cohesive unit. Communication gaps with executive leadership were also prominent, with nearly half (49%) of Indian respondents saying the metrics they measured were too technical to persuade company executives.
