The A220's flight control system is a unique blend of Airbus and Boeing design traits. This hybrid approach sets it apart from other narrowbodies, making it easier for pilots to transition. The aircraft's triplex fly-by-wire system was originally designed by Bombardier before being acquired by Airbus in 2018.

The team engineered the A220's system with a custom hybrid design that studied both A320 and 777 designs. Pilots experience sidestick inputs and protection logic akin to Airbus, but retain manual trim and natural pitch behavior reminiscent of Boeing jets.
