Abandoned Disney Concepts: A Look at the Projects That Never Made It
Over the years, Disney has developed numerous theme park attractions and expansions that never made it to their parks. As the company currently builds 22 new rides around the world, let's take a look at some of the Imagineers' abandoned concepts.
One such project was Pixie Hollow, an area based on the Tinker Bell direct-to-DVD films that was initially announced as part of Fantasyland Forest in 2009. The plan was to shrink guests down to fairy size and let them visit Pixie Hollow, with concept art depicting the large Pixie Dust Tree from the movies.
Another notable project is Beastly Kingdom, a land planned for Disney's Animal Kingdom that would have been dedicated to imaginary creatures. The concept included an inverted roller coaster through castle ruins leading to a dragon encounter, which sounds similar to the Maleficent coaster currently under construction for Villains Land at Magic Kingdom.
Additionally, Disney announced a Mary Poppins attraction for EPCOT in 2019, which would have been a mini-land within World Showcase's United Kingdom Pavilion depicting a full-scale Cherry Tree Lane. The project was eventually quietly stopped mentioning the Mary Poppins attraction.
