Abel's Berkshire Portfolio Yields Opportunities Amid Market Volatility
Greg Abel, CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, has made significant changes to the company's portfolio since taking over just under a year ago. He has trimmed or eliminated stakes in smaller positions and concentrated on top holdings that are expected to compound for decades.
The top eight stocks making up 75% of Berkshire's $365.2 billion public equity portfolio include Apple, American Express, Coca-Cola, Bank of America, Alphabet, Chevron, Occidental Petroleum, and Mitsubishi. These companies have outperformed the S&P 500 with the exception of American Express.
American Express has seen its revenue and net income rise by double-digit percentages in the six months ended June 30, but its stock has underperformed the index due to higher expenses and lower margins.
