Ackman's $2.4 Billion Bet on Microsoft: Is It Still a Buy After the Rally?
Billionaire investor Bill Ackman has made no secret of his enthusiasm for Microsoft, and a recent update from Pershing Square Capital Management highlights just how much he's betting on the company. With around 15% of the fund's portfolio invested in Microsoft, it's clear that Ackman sees the tech giant as a key player in the AI era.
According to Ackman, Microsoft is positioned to capture outsize economics as AI workloads grow, thanks to its Azure cloud infrastructure and developer tooling. He also points out that the company's 27% stake in OpenAI, estimated to be worth around $200 billion, doesn't get enough attention from investors.
However, Ackman's enthusiasm shouldn't be taken as a blanket endorsement for individual investors. The same factors that make Microsoft attractive, such as its commitment to massive capital spending on AI and cloud capacity, also create risk. If AI demand or pricing falls short of expectations, those investments could drag on returns.
For now, it seems that Ackman's view is that the current valuation doesn't fully reflect Microsoft's potential, but individual investors may want to exercise caution before diving in.
