Ackman's AI Play: Amazon, Microsoft, and Meta on the Rise
Bill Ackman's Pershing Square Capital Management has significant exposure to the artificial intelligence (AI) build-out trend through its investments in several major tech companies. Among these, Amazon, Microsoft, and Meta Platforms stand out as key holdings for the hedge fund manager.
Ackman's value-oriented approach to investing involves buying undervalued companies that are expected to recover their market value over time. This is evident in his stake in Microsoft, which now accounts for 15% of Pershing Square's portfolio. The company's recent quarterly results, featuring a 43% growth rate in Azure revenue and an 18% rise in overall revenue, have boosted investor confidence.
Amazon also delivered strong earnings, with its AWS cloud computing division exceeding expectations by growing at a 37% pace. Ackman initiated his Amazon position last year but saw little movement until the recent quarter's impressive results. This has sparked hopes of a significant upward trajectory for the stock in the coming weeks and months.
Meta Platforms, however, did not fare as well, with its 28% revenue growth failing to impress investors due to shrinking operating margins and slowing projected revenue growth. Ackman's position in Meta accounts for about 11% of Pershing Square's portfolio, but the company is still seen as a work in progress in terms of becoming an AI powerhouse.
