Adam Smith Appointed to Lead Disney's Streaming Business
Disney has appointed Adam Smith as chairman of direct-to-consumer for Disney Entertainment. He will oversee the company's streaming businesses, including Disney+ and Hulu. This move is part of a larger effort to revamp Walt Disney with Disney+ as its 'digital centerpiece.'
Smith takes over from Joe Earley, who was co-president, direct-to-consumer and head of content strategy at Disney. Earley will now oversee all content and production for international originals in his new role as president, Disney Entertainment Television Franchises and Content Strategy.
New Disney CEO Josh D'Amaro has stated that his plan is to make Disney+ the 'digital centerpiece' of the company. He said, 'Disney has the best storytellers and the most passionate fandom in the world.'
