AeroSHARK technology is expanding to Airbus A330 aircraft after successful implementation on Boeing 777s. Lufthansa Technik has entered the final certification phase for AeroSHARK on the A330-200 and A330-300, with a Discover Airlines A330-300 undergoing flight tests.

The technology, inspired by shark skin, reduces drag on aircraft surfaces through microscopic riblets. According to Lufthansa Technik, current configurations can reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by around 1%.

With over 377,000 flight hours, more than 22,000 tons of fuel savings, and over 70,000 tons of CO2 savings from the AeroSHARK program, Lufthansa Technik is optimistic about expanding this technology to new aircraft platforms.
