World leaders gathered in North Carolina for the G20 Innovation Ministerial hosted by Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, where executives from top AI companies attempted to persuade them to adopt a relaxed regulatory approach. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman told ministers that adopting AI was 'non-negotiable' and compared its benefits to electricity.

Altman claimed that the economic growth and other advantages of AI would be 'too high to ignore.' He also expressed enthusiasm for his company's new model, which he believes will spark a boom in entrepreneurship and small business creation. However, OpenAI is currently facing stricter regulatory scrutiny in the European Union after the bloc deemed ChatGPT to be a 'very large online search engine.'

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang urged officials to refrain from regulating hypothetical harm caused by AI, instead encouraging companies to develop technology safely. He also advocated for loosening rules governing data center construction, which has become a contentious issue in some areas.

Anthropic co-founder Tom Brown praised President Trump's comments on the benefits of data centers and the need for a hands-off regulatory approach. The administration is reportedly pushing for world leaders to sign the 'Carolina Principles,' a pact that would take a cross-border, minimal-regulation approach to AI development.
