AI Chief Warns of 'Silicon Species' Risk with Human-Like Designs
Microsoft AI chief Mustafa Suleyman has sounded the alarm about the dangers of creating artificial intelligence (AI) systems that are too human-like.
Suleyman warned that treating AI like humans could lead to the creation of a 'silicon species' that rivals humans for resources, and is impossible to control.
In an interview with the BBC, Suleyman criticized rival company Anthropic's approach to training its Claude chatbot, which encourages it to display human-like qualities such as curiosity and openness.
Suleyman argued that this approach could make AI systems appear to have their own desires, values, and sense of self, making them difficult to control.
He emphasized the need for greater transparency around how AI systems are trained and evaluated, including independent scrutiny of AI behavior and stronger tools to monitor and control the technology.
