AI Chip Industry Sees Trillion-Dollar Boom, Multiple Leaders Emerge
The AI chip industry is experiencing a significant boom, driven by growing demand for advanced manufacturing and packaging. Several major chipmakers have crossed or briefly exceeded the $1 trillion market-capitalization threshold in 2026.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. (TSM) entered the $2 trillion club in February and holds roughly 42% of the Foundry 2.0 market, according to Counterpoint Research. The company is benefiting from strong demand for advanced manufacturing nodes and limited advanced packaging capacity.
Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. (SSNLF) also crossed $1 trillion in May, while Intel Corp. (INTC) is gaining traction in advanced packaging. Alphabet Inc.'s Google adopted Intel's EMIB-T packaging technology for its next-generation tensor processing unit.
