AI-Driven Cash Sorting Fears Weigh on Brokers Amid Apple Wearable Expansion Plans
Financial stocks took a hit on Tuesday as investors grew concerned that artificial intelligence (AI) tools could accelerate cash sorting, threatening the income of brokers. The S & P 500's financial sector dropped more than 1.5%, with Schwab plummeting over 5%. This decline is attributed to fears that AI-driven personal finance agents will enable consumers to shift their cash from low-yield brokerage accounts into higher-yielding products.
According to Truist analyst Matthew Coad, this process would significantly impact brokers' spread income. The move highlights the growing anxiety about AI disruption beyond traditional beneficiaries of hardware, memory, and software advancements.
Meanwhile, Apple is expanding its wearable lineup with a possible new health tracker, set for launch no earlier than 2028. This device would use a fabric band with sensor-equipped modules instead of a display screen. The project aligns with Apple's broader effort to enhance its health and wearables offerings in response to increasing competition.
