Cyber attackers are increasingly using AI to commit voice phishing attacks, which have surged by 502% year-on-year, according to Microsoft's digital defense report.

The use of AI in these attacks is changing how vulnerabilities are identified and attacks are developed, making it harder for defenders to prioritize risk and respond to emerging threats.

Malicious voice phishing attacks through Teams have skyrocketed, with more than 46 million business contact impersonation attacks detected in the past 12 months.

The report found that AI tools are being used to produce counterfeit identity documents that pass standard visual checks, while attackers are also targeting AI systems themselves, including machine learning models and training data.
