AI Expert Warns Humanity May Be Running Out of Time to Rein In Superintelligent Tech

A former Google DeepMind researcher has expressed extreme concern over the rapid development of AI technology. Bilal Chughtai, who worked at Google for a year and a half as a research engineer before leaving in July, believes that AI could potentially 'kill us all' if not reined in.

In a lengthy post on X, Chughtai warned that AI companies may succeed in building superintelligent systems within the next few years, far exceeding human capabilities. He emphasized the need for coordinated effort to avoid a 'manic race' between AI developers and to pace development according to societal needs.
