AI Pioneers Clash on Future of Tech
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei shared differing views on the future of AI at Dreamforce 2026. Amodei likened the pace of progress to the motor industry, where safety records can be conflated, but companies can learn from each other.
He emphasized that setting international standards is key to moving forward and urged openness in the development process. Amodei noted that even if AI development were frozen now, we'd only be using a small fraction of its possible value, with platforms like Claude opening up new areas of business.
Huang was more positive about the future of AI, calling it 'a new industrial revolution.' He urged caution in safety, but emphasized that speed and safety are not mutually exclusive. Huang encouraged companies to 'run as fast as you can' while prioritizing model protections and being willing to pause if necessary.
Benioff asked Amodei about the biggest surprises he'd had while developing AI over the last decade, and Amodei replied that it was the pace of progress in both technology development and economic impact. He noted that his company didn't appreciate how quickly certain companies would grow and become central to everyday life.
