AI Speeds Up Porting of 20-Year-Old Windows Tool to macOS in Just Two Days
Microsoft Azure CTO Mark Russinovich has successfully ported the Windows tool ZoomIt to macOS in just two days using AI. This achievement is remarkable given that Russinovich expected it would take several weekends or even months to accomplish, even with AI's help.
Russinovich created ZoomIt over 20 years ago as a lightweight screen zooming, recording, and annotation tool for teaching Windows Internals classes. The tool was originally designed to allow instructors to magnify and draw on specific areas of the screen, making it easier to explain complex concepts to students.
ZoomIt's features include break timers, panorama screenshots, video recording, and video editing. Russinovich used an undisclosed AI model that had access to the Windows code for ZoomIt, which made it easier for the AI to understand the app's structure and features.
