AI Won't Destroy Software, SaaS Consolidation Takes Hold
Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff has continued to dismiss warnings of a 'SaaSpocalypse' brought on by AI, arguing that instead it will increase the importance of enterprise applications and customer relationship management (CRM).
On Salesforce's second-quarter earnings call, Benioff pointed to growth in software seats, customer retention, contract lengths, and AI usage as evidence that fears over AI agents destroying the traditional SaaS model have yet to materialize.
'This is not the SaaSpocalypse,' he said. 'We have been hearing about this for the last two quarters, these dire predictions about the end of software and how the models eat everything.'
Meanwhile, Zoom reported Q2 FY 2027 revenue growth, with Enterprise revenue growing 7.8 percent, its strongest rate in three years.
The company's platform strategy is shifting towards connecting customer conversations, employee knowledge, internal collaboration, and workflow automation, rather than treating the contact center as a separate island.
