The US Air Force has awarded Boeing a $2.38 billion contract to build 22 F-15EX Eagle II fighter jets, just hours before the new fiscal year began on October 1.

The purchase comes from funds allocated in the 2026 reconciliation legislation, which aimed to spend excess money by the deadline.

Boeing has now sold a total of 120 F-15EX aircraft to the Air Force, with plans to eventually procure 267 of these updated versions of the twin-engine interceptor.

The F-15EX features modernized radar, larger cockpit digital displays, advanced electronic warfare systems, and increased survivability in combat. It's intended to replace older F-15C and F-15D aircraft serving in Air Force and Air National Guard units.
