Air Force to Buy First Military Boeing 737 MAX for Senior Official Transport
The U.S. Air Force is set to become the first military operator of the Boeing 737 MAX, after announcing plans to purchase one for $250 million.
The aircraft will be used to transport senior members of the U.S. government and expand the C-40 VIP transport fleet, which currently includes the C-40B and C-40C models based on the previous-generation Boeing 737-700.
According to Air Mobility Command, the new 737 MAX will have a range of roughly 4,500 to 5,000 nautical miles unrefuelled, making it suitable for transatlantic flights. The exact variant of the 737 MAX being purchased has not been confirmed, but an earlier Air Force training solicitation referenced the Boeing 737-8 MAX.
