Air France Flight Declares Emergency Over Morocco, Diverts to Casablanca
An Air France flight from Dakar to Paris declared an emergency and diverted to Casablanca on August 19, according to flight-tracking data.
The Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, registered F-GZNG, departed Blaise Diagne International Airport at 7:32 a.m. GMT for Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, but its crew activated the emergency transponder code 7700 while flying near Morocco's Atlantic coast about two and a half hours later.
The flight then turned towards Casablanca and began a rapid descent.
Air traffic controllers cleared surrounding traffic to make way for the affected aircraft, which landed safely at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca. The reason for the emergency was not confirmed by Air France or Moroccan aviation authorities at the time of publication.
