Air India Teases New Boeing 787-9 as Fleet Transformation Continues

Air India has teased the arrival of another Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, which is set to join its expanding fleet. The aircraft was shown fresh from Boeing's factory in Everett, Washington, in a social media post by the airline.

The new aircraft features three cabin classes: Business, Premium Economy, and Economy, with bespoke interiors installed directly on Boeing's production line.

This is not the first 787-9 to join Air India's fleet; the carrier received its first line-fit Dreamliner in January. The 296-seat aircraft was ferried non-stop from Everett to Delhi by an Air India cockpit crew in a flight lasting nearly 17 hours.

Air India plans to receive six widebody aircraft in 2026, comprising Airbus A350-1000s and Boeing 787-9s. The airline is also undertaking a large-scale retrofit programme for its existing fleet, with 26 legacy Boeing 787-8 aircraft being progressively refurbished.
