Akasa Air Eyes Massive Boeing 737 Max Purchase to Fuel Rapid Growth
Akasa Air is in talks to purchase more than 200 Boeing 737 Max aircraft, according to people familiar with the matter. This would mark another major win for Boeing in India, following Air India's combined 250-aircraft buy. The airline has already ordered 183 of these jets and operates 43 currently.
Akasa is growing rapidly to take on IndiGo and Air India Ltd. in the world's fourth-largest aviation market. It flew 5.5% of domestic travelers in recent data, compared with 65% for IndiGo and 27% for Air India Group. The airline is owned by SNV Aviation Pvt.
The discussions about purchasing more aircraft are ongoing, with a decision expected early next year. Pricing and other details would be settled in the back half of 2027. However, it's also possible that no firm order will result from these talks.
