Akasa Air Pursues Massive Boeing Order to Fuel Indian Expansion
Mumbai-based Akasa Air is in talks to significantly expand its fleet by ordering over 200 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. This move comes as the airline aims to take advantage of India's growing air travel market and secure deliveries into the next decade.
Currently, Akasa operates 43 Boeing 737 MAX jets and has unfilled orders for an additional 183 planes scheduled for delivery over the next decade. The airline is targeting a 30% increase in capacity by March 2027 and is also considering participation in the government's emergency credit guarantee scheme.
A decision on the potential aircraft order is expected early next year, while terms are likely to be finalised in the second half of 2027. This would enable Akasa Air to continue expanding its fleet beyond 2032, giving it a significant presence in India's growing aviation market.
