Albany International Reups Boeing Contract Amid Commercial Aerospace Growth
Albany International Corp (NYSE: AIN) has secured a contract extension with The Boeing Company (NYSE: BA) to continue manufacturing composite fuselage frames for the 787 Dreamliner. This deal, which extends an agreement established in 2014, will see Albany produce approximately 300 unique components at its Salt Lake City facility.
The extension is seen as a strategic win for both companies, with Boeing securing a key supplier relationship and reducing supply chain friction. For Albany, the contract stabilizes revenue visibility while exposing the company to potential manufacturing execution risks and build-rate fluctuations associated with Boeing's production.
While bulls point to the benefits of returning to contractual inventory levels on the LEAP engine program, bears highlight ongoing operational challenges and limited near-term visibility for Albany International Corp. The company has a $147 million cumulative loss reserve on the CH-53K program, which may indicate persistent labor and material cost inflation.
Meanwhile, Boeing's massive commercial backlog provides multi-year top-line visibility and supports cash generation as delivery rates recover. However, the company's heavily leveraged balance sheet limits financial flexibility and leaves narrow equity protection against operational missteps.
