Allan Marshall Quick Remembered for Engineering Legacy and Vibrant Life
Allan Marshall Quick, affectionately known as Al, passed away on October 3, 2026, at the age of 85 in Frisco, Texas. Born on September 28, 1941, in Greenville, South Carolina, Al was the youngest of three children and was known for his close relationships with his sisters, Joan Merck and Jewell Deloras West. After graduating from Greenville High School, Al served in the United States Navy, stationed in Morocco. He later married Theresa McDonald and pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of South Carolina, followed by a Master's in Electrical Engineering from Catholic University and an MBA from George Washington University.
Al's career began at the National Security Agency, where he worked on semiconductors. He later moved to Columbia, South Carolina, to work for NCR Corporation, rising to Vice President of Retail and overseeing a billion-dollar global business. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to found KryoTech, which developed the fastest personal computer in the world at one point. Beyond his professional achievements, Al was known for his vibrant personality and love for outdoor activities such as fishing, boating, and golfing. He was also a passionate Jimmy Buffett fan and enjoyed skiing in neon outfits.
Al is survived by his sister Jewell Deloras West, sons Matthew Quick (Lauren) and Mark Quick (Renata), and four grandsons who all carry his middle name, Allan. A celebration of his life will be held on October 17, 2026, at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes in Greenville, South Carolina. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Allan M. Quick Electrical Engineering Scholarship Fund at the University of South Carolina.
