Alphabet's second-quarter earnings rose by 24% to $119.8 billion, marking the twelfth consecutive quarter of double-digit growth. The company's revenue from Google Services increased by 15% to $94.5 billion, led by a 17% growth in Google Search & other and 13% growth in YouTube ads.

Google Cloud revenue jumped by 82% to $24.8 billion, driven by an increase in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) across enterprise AI Solutions and enterprise AI Infrastructure. CEO Sundar Pichai stated that the company's AI investments are redefining what's possible across every part of their business.

Alphabet's capital expenditures reached about $45 billion, offset by $39 billion in cash from operating activities. However, the company expects its free cash flow to remain under pressure due to massive investments in artificial intelligence (AI). In fact, Google's Chief Financial Officer Anat Ashkenazi raised their projected capital expenditure spending for 2026 to between $195 billion and $205 billion.

Alphabet is facing challenges from Reddit, whose $60 million annual deal with Google will end in early 2027 unless the two companies come to an agreement. This deal allows Google to use Reddit's content to train AI models, but reports suggest that Reddit may consider shutting off this flow of information for use in Google's AI engines.

Google receives a real-time firehose of public Reddit posts, comments, and subreddits through its Data API, which it applies to train large language models (LLMs) and serve information in AI Overviews. This has raised concerns among online publishers, who are losing revenue due to the trend of 'zero-click', where search engines resolve a user's query directly on the results page using AI-generated summaries or featured snippets.
