Alphabet Falls Behind in Cloud Revenue as Azure Surpasses Google Cloud
Alphabet's Google cloud services have been outpaced by Microsoft's Azure in quarterly revenue, according to recent financial filings. While Azure generated $29.4 billion in revenue, Google Cloud produced $24.8 billion, resulting in a $4.6 billion gap between the two.
This discrepancy is significant because it represents about 18.5% of Google Cloud's revenue, yet Google Cloud already accounts for over 20% of Alphabet's total sales. The stock price of Alphabet currently stands at $338.31 per share, which is a 34.27% premium above its estimated value.
To close the cloud gap and regain market share, Alphabet will need to continue investing heavily in its infrastructure. In the second quarter alone, Alphabet's capital expenditures skyrocketed to $44.9 billion as it ramped up efforts to build data centers, networks, and computing muscle behind its AI and cloud push.
