Alphabet Investor Sees Opportunity Amid Market Concerns
Despite market concerns over Alphabet's ballooning capital expenditures and suspended buybacks, one investor remains bullish on the company. The investor sees an opportunity to accumulate shares while others are spooked by Alphabet's spending plans.
The company's cloud and AI businesses are growing faster than its ad revenue, which brings in a significant portion of the company's income. In Q2, Google Cloud revenue reached $24.77 billion, up 82%, and the company's backlog exceeded $460 billion as of Q1.
Alphabet's operating income rose 30.4% to $40.77 billion, and its operating margin expanded to 34%. The company also raised its quarterly dividend by 5% to $0.22.
The investor compares Alphabet favorably to Microsoft and Meta Platforms, citing lower valuations for similar growth rates in cloud revenue.
However, the investor acknowledges that spending is a risk to Alphabet's position, particularly if AI demand stalls. If this happens, shareholders could be diluted and left paying for idle data centers.
