Alphabet Opens Google Home to Rival Agents, Shares Rise
Alphabet's shares rose by approximately 1.5% on Thursday to $347.91, following the company's decision to open its smart-home ecosystem to rival AI agents.
This move allows third-party agents like Claude and OpenClaw to access Google Home, expanding Alphabet's paid home infrastructure even when users interact with it through Gemini or another interface.
By opening up its system, Alphabet creates a new revenue stream by monetizing AI interoperability, allowing the company to tap into users' existing ecosystems rather than requiring them to start from scratch with its own model.
However, this also introduces a new security variable: Google may control the infrastructure without controlling every decision made by the AI running on top of it, which could lead to potential trust issues if there is a high-profile failure involving household data or device control.
