Alphabet Soars Past $1 Trillion as Google's Founders Disregard Market Testing
Google's founders didn't bother to market test their parent company's name before launching it in 2015. Larry Page and Sergey Brin wanted a name that would be 'proud to work for' but not too catchy.
Alphabet, the holding company of Google, has grown to become one of the world's largest companies with a market capitalization of $1.9 trillion.
The company, which spans services like Search and Youtube to cloud computing, Waymo, private equity, and DeepMind AI research, is led by Page who has controlled it alongside Brin since its inception.
In 2011, Steve Jobs advised Page on Alphabet's future saying 'the main thing I stressed was focus. It's now all over the map.'
