Alphabet Sued Over AI Development Delays and Stock Drop
Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG, GOOGL) is facing a class-action lawsuit for alleged securities fraud after its stock price dropped 4% following revelations about delays in its AI development. The lawsuit, filed by Bleichmar Fonti & Auld LLP, claims that Alphabet misrepresented the progress of its Gemini 3.5 Pro AI model, which was supposed to launch in June 2026.
The stock drop occurred on July 16, 2026, when Bloomberg reported that Google was 'months behind schedule' on delivering Gemini 3.5 Pro due to ongoing coding issues. The complaint alleges that the company had updated the training data for Gemini but saw disappointing results, leading to the stock's decline.
Investors have until December 1, 2026, to ask the court to be appointed as the lead plaintiff in the case. The lawsuit is pending in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Bleichmar Fonti & Auld LLP, known for its work in securities class actions, is representing the plaintiffs.
The firm emphasizes that representation is on a contingency fee basis, meaning shareholders are not responsible for any court costs or expenses. The lawsuit seeks to recover losses incurred by investors due to the alleged misrepresentations.
