ALS Advocate Brooke Eby Dies at 37 After Documenting Battle with Disease
Brooke Eby, a 37-year-old Montgomery County resident, passed away on Thursday after documenting her battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) online. The former Salesforce partnership manager was diagnosed with ALS in March 2022 and used social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram to raise awareness and funds for medical research.
Through her advocacy efforts, Eby managed to gather hundreds of thousands of dollars towards finding a cure for the condition. She initially focused on engaging a younger demographic online, documenting her daily life and treatments in an effort to humanize the disease.
'I’m still working, I’m financially comfortable, so I feel like I sort of checked that care bucket off for myself and I want to focus...[on] research,' Eby emphasized, highlighting her primary objective as finding a cure for ALS.
